“CRAZY LOVE” BY FRANCIS CHAN

Posted: June 24, 2009 by kylejackson10 in CRAZY LOVE

I found myself 6 months ago living the day to day life like most of us do. “Should I get up and exercise this morning”, “what is work going to be like today”, “what am I going to have for lunch” or “what chore is my wife going to ask me to do tonight?” I caught myself thinking.. “Is this the life I wanted?” I went home for Memorial Day to see my family that is all spread out over Alabama and while Jennifer and I were there my dad, who is a preacher in a small town in AL gave me a book that he said would change my life if I would go about reading it with a open mind and really read the book and not just scam through it. He handed me “CRAZY LOVE” by Francis Chan. I had just finished a book titled “TRIBES” that talked a lot about challenging the status quo. “Crazy Love” is about challenging you to break the status quo of Christianity. Have you ever wondered if we are missing it? We go to church, we raise our hands during worship and we leave and try not to cuss or think bad thoughts. Francis Chan says, “the religious complacency is not working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts, but about falling in Love with Jesus Christ.” He says, “when you are widely in Love with someone, it changes everything.”

The book shows us how to fall in love with God the same way we do when we are in the “honeymoon” stages of our dating relationships. When we have that feeling inside during the chase to see if he/she likes me. It shows us how to fall in Love with God the same way we do with the job we have wanted for so long and you cannot wait to get up in the morning. Like the 1st day of Little League baseball when you are a kid and you can’t wait to get to the field or if you are a girl…maybe it is the dance recital you have been practicing for and you have that nervous energy behind stage (I have never been a girl, so I hope that worked for all of you..) We know all of these feelings as “butterfly’s.” Crazy Love teaches us how to have “butterfly’s” just like these when it comes to our relationship with God! That nervous but excited feeling when we are getting ready to spend time with him!

I started to read this book and I felt like I was getting slapped in the face over and over again. God is so clear in his word about the ways we should live our life, but my generation has made an exception to every rule God has placed before us, including myself. For the next 3 weeks I am going to write (i do not like the word blog) about 1 chapter a day. I want to show you what I got from each chapter and how I am going to try and apply it to my life. I hope that you will follow along with me and maybe even go buy “crazy love” read a chapter a day and compare with me. I promise reading this book will have some kind of positive influence on your life!

Wow…I think GOD is doing some awesome things. I was recently given Crazy Love. I have yet yo read it bc i have some other books I am currently reading, but I might bring it to the top of the priority list.

Kyle–God has been asking me some hard questions lately and challenging me in so many ways. I dont want to do things the same ole same ole status-quo walk with God or Christianity in general. Honored to read the things God is doing in you! Be Blessed Be Excellent in your pursuit of the undiluted truth found in God’s Word.

  3. Michael Pigg says:

Kyle – it’s so encouraging to see a peer that has some of the same thoughts and feelings that I have had for some time now. Over the past few years I’ve often asked myself the same types of questions you have , such as “is this really the life that God wants for me?” Anyway, I really appreciate the encouragement you provide through this blog. You’re impacting people in a positive way, and isn’t that what life is all about? Wish you and Jenn all the best, and we hope to come down there to see ya’ll some time after Carter is born. Look forward to more “Crazy Love” updates. Take care!

    Oh truth!!!
Christianity isnt about rules and regulations to get to heaven. Its a LIFESTYLE. A lifestyle of faith, reverence, and above all, love.

Ive read that book twice and i plan on reading it again. It blew my mind. I love it and i love Francis Chan. If you dont already, you should definitely listen to his podcasts cuz he’s really got it.

great idea about blogging your thoughts on the chapters too =)

  5. Hey pal, love seeing a friend take on a new challenge, step out into deeper waters, and seek to INFLUENCE others with your discovery of TRUTH as it is revealed in your own life. I look forward to hearing all that you have to share “on the journey”.

  6. Dad says:

God amazes me the way He responds to earnest prayer…Crazy Love touched me in a fresh and inspiring way…Just to be overwhelmed by God’s truth is an incredible experience…I find it quite interesting that Steve is encouraged because you have chosen to “step out into deeper waters.” My sermon Sunday is titled, “Dive Deeper.” Francis Chan, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, has challenged me to sail a little farther from the shore and experience Him in a life-changing fashion. My point Sunday will simply be this: If you want to dive deeper and meet God in “difference-making” sort of way, treat everybody you meet like they are Jesus. To experience the power of our Lord with you simultaneouslyi s a cherished memory…

    Matthew 25: 37-40
“Then those ‘sheep’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’
